October 2014 Intro: Details

Godly Play
Godly Play is an engaging approach to biblical story and liturgical action. Originally developed for children (3-12 years), this method is now in use with people of all ages and stages all over the world.

Explaining Godly Play is difficult, so we encourage you to experience a full session with others, which is best! As facilitators, we will offer a prayerful and playful atmosphere to do this work together.

A going deeper event, through an Introductory Workshop, will happen from 930am to 400pm on Saturday, October 4, at Scarboro United Church, Calgary. The $100 fee includes everything you need for our day together, and covers all costs incurred. This includes, but not limited to: handouts, stories, a full classroom, workshop supplies, facilitation, space, morning coffee, lunch, and work materials.

We invite you to this discovery approach that honours the power of sacred story, imagination, and Spirit! In the process, we will:

  • pay attention to the unspoken and spoken lessons in your space and practice;
  • learn about ways you (and others) can support the circle of children you serve;
  • hear the language at the heart of Godly Play;
  • practice working with the stories and materials;
  • encounter a Godly Play classroom, materials, and set-up; and
  • build community.
***A schedule of the event will be posted, closer to our time together.

February Introduction Facilitators

Norah enters the Godly Play circle when silence allows an aha! moment to burst forth. Norah has been involved with Godly Play since 2007 and continues to learn new things with each new circle. She invites you to play with the SPIRIT and to be open to a silence that is abounding with God's presence.

Are you ready? Ruth is, most days. And when people come close to Godly Play, lives change! Ruth's has. She first experienced Godly Play in 2005, and has been committed to building the circle ever since! Ruth enters through the wondering, stays for the silence, and shares her playful storytelling freely with others.

Lesley, a Godly Play practitioner since 2006, has a gift for nurturing respectful relationships where we can explore Mystery together. Lesley enters Godly Play in the silent moment in the middle of the story where you could hear a pin drop. She looks forward to welcoming you to worship Godly Play style!
